Thank GOD!!!! The last Word Within the Word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Synthesis:  The category for the words introspective, megalomania, vivacious, and cognoscenti would all describe an extremely self-centered person. They are always looking at themselves (introspective), they have a delusion that they are great (megalomania), they think that they are very lively (vivacious), and they think they know everything (cognoscenti).

Divergence: Those who know (cognoscenti) would buy the cheaper, generic brands, such as Great Value. They know that this is the best value for their money, and would be willing to risk the quality to save a couple bucks. They would know that the Great Value brands are less expensive, and are fairly close to the same as higher consumed brands.

Analysis:

Circumvent=circum+vent=around+go (get around)

Exculpate=ex+cul+ate= not+blame+act of (free of blame)

Heliotropic=helio+tropic= sun+turning (sun-following)

Evaluation: A criminal should be exculpated if the methods used by the police are either unconstitutional, or against the law. Not because the culprit should get away free of blame, but because the police need to follow their own laws. They are trying to enforce laws and keep the community under control, but how can we trust them if they do not abide by their own rules? These culprits should get away without blame to teach the police a lesson. This lesson being that they need to play by the same rules as everyone else.

Intuition: When I am eighty years old, my hobby would be living. That would be a big enough feat for me, and adding anything more may stress me beyond belief. Not many sane eighty year olds are in the world, so by simply being sane, I would be overcoming a huge obstacle.

Emotion: A vivacious person is very lively. They are like the energizer bunny and never stop going. No matter what, they keep pushing.

Aesthetics: A sculpture out of pellucid (transparent) glass would be very cool. In order for it to be seen, you would need to use very different techniques to achieve different textures in the sculpture. It would be difficult, but not impossible.

Yesss! Finally the last Article of the Week… hopefully. However, these articles have helped me become more knowledgable about current events.

It is important to have Cell Phone Etiquette. Mainly because without it, everyone around you would be extremely annoyed. How many times have you been in the movie theater and seen someone texting? That little light out of the corner of your eye just drives me insane. The previews say please put your phones on silent, but completely disregard the texting aspect of mobile devices. Also, when you are out in public and standing next to someone on the phone, you always hear about their personal problems. Although this can be amusing at times, it is also very annoying. I do not want someone yapping in my ear about whatever they dreamt about last night. If only more people followed the cell phone etiquette, life would be so much less aggravating.

Some studies show that using a cellular devise does not affect your health, but there is not enough information to be sure. Who do we believe? They always say “better safe than sorry,” but by doing this, you would end up with one of the crappy phones on the lowest radiation list. So, do you play it safe and live with a crappy phone, or do you upgrade at the risk of your health? I would usually play it safe, but you can take cautions to reduce your exposure to mobile radio frequency.

A Note to the Reader

Have you ever been in the halls of Cross Timbers? I have and let me tell you, it is a very scary place. Every day the halls are exactly the same. The smell of trouble, chaos, and sweat seem to permeate from the walls. The monitors are the same. How many times can you give office referrals for having your skirt one millimeter too short? The guys are the same: obnoxious losers who run around the halls screaming. The girls are the same: just trying to get to their next class without being stopped by Janet Mrs. McKnight. And the faculty? Please. So when I dragged my feet into the foul smelling hallways, pulling my skirt down the entire time, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into.

Sure I did.

Synthesis: I believe that the words android, infidel, and somnambulist could all be classified under the category of robots.  They do not believe in God, nor do they have any knowledge of religion, they are also walking around while everyone else is asleep, and they are robotic creatures.

Divergence: Pandemonium is common on this planet which we call earth.  Craziness is what makes life worth living.  It is the unexpected that gives everyone that thrill of simply being. Pandemonium happens everyday.  Sometimes it is good, a much needed flexibility in an otherwise rigid schedule. But at other times, pandemonium can be very bad.  Pandemonium is particularly common in times of epidemic, and we all know how devastating those can be.

Analysis:  irrevocable= re+voc= back voice (beyond recall)

Evaluation:  It is a good idea to begin marketing personal androids.  Androids are robots and they could make our lives much, much easier.  They would be able to perform simple tasks such as taking out the trash, or doing the laundry.  However, I do have doubts about such robots.  After reading our AOW, it has lead me to believe that our electronics that make our lives easier, are making younger generation’s life too easy.  They do not have to perform the character building tasks that we did.

Intuition:  If I could talk to an inanimate object, I would talk to a zipper.  Zippers have always intrigued me.  I believe that it could possibly be the greatest invention ever, and we all take advantage of it.  Nearly every article of clothing has a zipper on it.  They fascinate me, I have always wondered how they work.

Emotion:  Urbane behavior is very sophisticated, elegant behavior.  Some people may react to this with jealously, wishing that they possessed the same stature.  The idea of sophistication is a very tuned technique and some people may react to this stature with jealousy.

Aesthetics: If someone paid me to make some truly odd art, my topic would laughter.  When you think about it, laughter in itself is quite odd.  It is a strange sound that all humans make which binds us together.  It is the music of the soul and seems to come out of your mouth in bubbles.  It would make some truly great eccentric art.

Technology, a blessing in disguise.  Children in generations following the release of the reading devise, Kindle, are recognizing it as a book.  This could be a bad thing.  If they solely recognize this devise and not the paper printed, what does that do for the bookstore industry?  These children are living life in the fast lane, and retailers are only trying to keep up.  The kids expect everything to happen at the touch of a button, but this is not how life works.  They are also not recognizing the difference between online friends and social friends.  To them, a virtually socializing night is as satisfying as a Friday night party.  The article states that it gives them the potential to be more creative than preceding generations.  I do not understand how this is.  Just because this new “igeneration” spends twice as long looking at a screen than us, that does not make them more creative.  I believe that we are raising a generation of spoiled brats.  This generation of children expect things to happen as fast as their iphone can load, and some things take time.  We are developing a generation of multitaskers, this generation can to at least six tasks at one time.  Researchers seem astonished by this, but all of the tasks the the kids are doing require little to no brain activity.

In some parts of the United States, it is impossible to get high-speed internet unless you have installed a special satellite for $300. To me, this is a monopoly. The satellite company can say, if you want internet, then you will have to pay our ridiculous prices. This is not right. It is the government’s job to provide everyone with an equal ability to acquire high-speed internet. However, if some people just think that internet is a waste of time, the government should not change their opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if that opinion is that internet is a waste of time and money, then the government should not try to change that. It is the government’s job to give everyone access to the internet, but if they don’t want it then the government cannot force them to use it. The internet is becoming more and more of a monopoly. If you want to pay your bills, you have to use the internet. If you wish to file a job application, you have to use the internet. The companies are taking advantage of the few individuals that simply think the internet is a waste of time.

AOW #23 Questions

1) The affect of not having internet is huge on the Fields household. The children are not able to get their schoolwork done because they do not have the internet required to do vital searches. It also has a major affect on Kelli’s son’s social life. He is unable to update his Facebook status unless his mom agrees to do so from her office. In order to get high-speed internet, the Field’s would have to come up with $300. To obtain this sort of money, they would have to give up on television and to them the trade off just isn’t worth it. They are not hooked on internet, they just think that when they need it, it would be nice to have it.

3) In my eyes, the dilemma of people not wanting internet is not the government’s duty. If someone believes that internet is a waste of time and money, it is not the government’s job to step in and change their beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it is not right for the government to try to change that. A part of the Obama Administration is to education all children on why internet is a vital component of everyday life. To me this is brain wash. The government is trying to convince as many children as possible to believe that internet is good, when if they were left on their own to conjure up their own opinion, they may think it is a waste of time.

Synthesis: egocentric, ethnocentric, pugnacious, incisive, diatribe, disputatious

Divergence: There is one thing that should be sacrosanct in American society and that is the first amendment. In the first amendment, we have all of our rights outlined that the government cannot take away. This should remain sacred and the government has no right changing this. There has been talk of the government taking away our rights to bear arms, but this is one thing that should not be reexamined it is one of our few rights that are guaranteed by the government, and they have no right to take that away.

Analysis: Egocentric: ego+centri=I+center (self centered)

Androgynous: andro+gyn=man+woman (masculine and feminine)

Evaluation: If anything, our secondary schools should be less circumscribed. We are already very limited with our creativity and our society cannot afford any more limitations without unavoidable rebellions. If the administration placed more limitations on our schools, then we will not be able to make mistakes that are vital to our learning experience. The only way to learn, is by doing and if the administration takes away our ability to do, then we cannot learn.

Intuition: If I were to receive a scathing diatribe from a stranger on the street it would probably be for not having any pants on. Lets face it, we have all had that dream, where we are going somewhere important and we magically end up there without any pants. If a stranger were to criticize me in an abusive manner in one of my dreams, that is probably what it would be for.

Emotion: My reaction to someone who is egocentric is anger. How can someone go around and live like they are the center of the universe? It annoys me beyond everything else to meet someone who only cares about themselves and not the other three billion people in the world. My reaction to someone who is pugnacious is usually fear. It is not often that I meat someone who is so combative that they are willing to fight in a seconds notice, but when I do, I am usually afraid. Whenever I meet someone who is loquacious, we usually have a good conversation. There would be no awkward moments because the other person would always have something to say. As long as they are not self centered, we would have a good time.

Aesthetics: Music is in the eyes of its beholder. Some people seem to think that water dripping from a faucet is the best musical genre they have ever heard. Others believe that the cacophonous screaming into a microphone just the best thing ever. In the end, it all turns out to be art. Art is the way that someone expresses themselves. If water dripping from a faucet expresses you, then so be it.

In the civil war our nation experienced a severe version of sectionalism.  Once the issue of slavery was resolved, we believed that sectionalism was abolished with it but this was not the case.  In present time we are experiencing more and more sectionalism.  Where each state believes that their word is superior to that of the national government.  The main issue is firearms.  Some states have taken it upon themselves to change the constitution and make fire arms illegal in their state.  This is a very bad idea because by doing this, the good guys are unable to reach guns, but I am sure that the bad guys will find a way and continue to terrorize the united states.

AOW #22 Questions

  1. What the people want will most likely have some sort of impact on the system. With our government, the states are not supreme over the federal government, and nearly all supreme court cases back this up. However, although the state government is not supreme, they may still have some affect on the national government.

  1. The federal government exists to bind us all together under one nation, the UNITED States of America. The federal government is there to say what is best for the whole united states. In the civil war, we experienced sectionalism where states put their own interests over that of the countries.
